Week of April 9-13, 2018


Welcome back from Spring Break! It's so hard to believe we are in our final 6 weeks of school. This year has flown by and I have truly enjoyed every single moment and cannot wait to see what the last 30 days holds for us as we close out the 2017-18 school year.


ELA:
Informational Writing - Continue opinion writing
Mentor Sentence: Looking at mentor text and discussing how to incorporate style of various sentences into personal writing. This week's focus: compound subjects and compound predicates

He and I collect rented luggage carts that people have left outside and return them for fifty cents each.
Vocabulary: Week 19 - Quiz Friday, April 13
**Know the words and their meanings as well as how to use the words correctly in a sentence according to their meaning**
veto - to use your power to forbid something

mimic - to copy
brittle - easily broken
crave - to have a strong desire for something
vendor - someone who sells something
event - something that is going on or might happen
distinguish - to indicate or show a difference
characterize - describe the character or the qualities
occur - to happen , take place, come to one's mind
Reading:
* Close Reading strategies with informational and fiction text
* Who is the intended audience of the text?
Science: Pollution - Study guide posted in previous post as well as here. Paper copy
will go home this week.
Standards covered:
1. Explain the effects of pollution and humans on the environment
2. Identify various substances that contribute to the pollution of water
and air and to the contamination of our environment
3, Explain the effects of pollution (littering) to the habitats of plants
and animals
4. Explain how technology has altered the environment
5. Identify ways to protect the environment such as conservation of
resources and recycling of materials
Math: Fractions - Identify and create equivalent fractions
Study multiplication facts each night.
